New sounds from my friend Joel Gion!

Longstanding member of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, a personal favourite of mine, and legendary percussionist Joel Gion, has been turning out some great music for the last 20 years, and not only as a percussionist, but as a singer songwriter as well.

In 2005, the San Francisco native formed the 5-member “The Dilettantes,” a garage rock psychedelic endeavor that has been compared to early Lou Reed/Velvet Underground.

In 2012, he released an EP that included the mesmerizing, “Houndstooth Butterfly,” a hypnotic song that's rife with dreamlike imagery. My film festival painting, “The Stranger,” a piece one reviewer termed “straight out of a David Lynch movie,” was actually completed using continuously played loops of the surrealistic lyrics in Joel’s song as artistic synergy.

Check out the latest single released just 4 days ago from this multi-talented, San Francisco native, “YES.” It includes a little help from BJM members Collin Hegna, Dan Allaire & Rob Campanella, as well as members of Asteroid 4 & The Dead Skeletons.
