A WEEK OF FRENCH FILM!

Premiering in Hollywood at City of Lights/City of Angels, housed in the Director’s Guild Theatres Complex at 7920 Sunset Blvd., LA, the series runs April 15-22.

Some favourites that stand out in their schedule:

La Baie des Anges” (Bay of Angels), beautifully restored by Demy’s wife, director Agnes Varga, and starring French icon, Jeanne Moreau.

Cannes Film Festival award-winning, "Le Grand Soir". Written by political satirist Benoît Delépine, this film is a black comedy about two displaced punks attempting to avenge the “corporate consumerist shrine to money known as the shopping center.”

Louis Malle’s, “Le Feu Follet” (The Fire Within) also stars Jeanne Moreau, who along with the main character played by Maurice Ronet provides a glimpse into the director’s own turbulent life. The use of natural light and haunting score by Eric Satie also make this film worth seeing.

Finally, don’t miss this coming Thursday at 1:45 p.m., the free discussion, “Focus on Alain Resnais,” (The modernist director of “Hiroshima Mon Amour”) at the Guild’s Truffaut Theatre.

Alternatively, I hear Tom Cruise’s “Oblivion” opens this weekend…
