NEW WORK!
A work in progress…“Still Cold Like The Stars”
Inspirations? No one in particular, but a little help from Chan Marshall…Albertine Sarrazin… & the wordsmith across the sea. 18 hours into this; time to come up for air!
I have been asked many times, why acrylics and not oils?
The answer is simple; I love the challenge. The blending is more difficult than with oils and the quick drying time can be tricky, but it creates a tension and spontaneity I enjoy. As well, at least 50% of the time I don’t use brushes, preferring to use my hands, which can be a mess with oils. Much of my creative process involves music, as I use sound to tap into a right-brained state. I don’t always like to work with sketches, and have found that music & lyrics can often be enough to short-cut the whole drawing and redrawing experience, which for me becomes too contrived. Add in a well-primed canvas, my chalks, a huge bottle of Liquitex Slow-Dri, and you’ve got the perfect shamanistic experience. I can’t compare it to anything else, and I suppose when I can...I will stop painting.
